Body lift

A body lift (circumferential abdominoplasty or ‘belt lipectomy’) simultaneously treats the anterior, lateral and posterior walls of the abdomen. This procedure treats the anterior of the abdomen by a standard plasty, and improves the lateral region by slimming down the waist and saddlebags on the outer thighs. Finally, a body lift treats the posterior part by lifting the buttocks and lower back (lumbar) region.

Buttock curve and projection can also be improved at the same time by lipofilling (using liposuction to transfer autologous fat, which redefines surrounding regions such as the lumbar region and posterior part of the thighs).

Although there will be a circular scar, it is discreetly located inside the bikini line and hence hidden from view.

This surgery on the figure also corrects age- or pregnancy-related skin sagging.

ADDED EXTRA

Crisalix is 3D simulation software that shows the results of aesthetic surgery. This tool helps patients better express their request and enables surgeons to give clear, reasoned explanations. Patients are therefore better informed when they decide to have an operation.

QUESTIONS/ANSWERS

  • When should you consider body-lift surgery?
    A body lift should preferably be considered after treating obesity or overweight. You can lose weight either by dieting or by bariatric surgery (sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass or gastroplasty).
    A nutritionist can also help correct poor eating habits to achieve a stable body mass index (BMI) below 30.
    BMI = weight/(height²). E.g. a patient weighing 85 kg and with a height of 1m 70 has a BMI of 85/(1.70 X 1.70) = 29.4
    Once your weight has stabilized for a while, a body lift will remove excess skin and residual fat from the abdomen, thighs and buttocks.
  • Is a body lift covered by state health insurance?
    Yes, if it is done after bariatric surgery (gastroplasty, gastric ring, gastric bypass, etc.) and if you have a hanging abdomen.
