Face-lift – Rejuvenation
A neck- and face-lift restores the oval of the face – from the temples to the jowls – as well as the neck. This tightens up tissue that sags over time, thus improving its aesthetic appearance. If done tactfully and in moderation, a face-lift subtly restores a youthful-looking face. It can be combined with various aesthetic medical procedures, such as skin smoothing by fractional CO2 laser treatment or lipofilling of the nasolabial folds.
This surgery is regarded as purely aesthetic and is therefore not covered by health insurance.

- How many years younger does it make you look?
The result can make you look at least around 10 years younger. - What is the ideal age for a neck- and face-lift?
There is not really any particular age. In recent years, it has been done earlier and earlier to moderately tighten up the skin and hence achieve a natural result. As a general rule, 45-50 is the ideal age for women. - Can it be combined with other interventions on the face?
Yes, it is often combined with eyelid rejuvenation, a forehead lift or lipofilling to achieve the best possible rejuvenation effect.
Useful information
Before the intervention
- Two consultations need to be arranged: one with the plastic surgeon and the other with the anaesthetist.
- You will be given a quote and a mutual informed consent form, which must both be signed before the intervention.
- Pre-operative photographs are taken.
- Stop smoking for 1 month before and after the intervention.
- Do not take aspirin (except for cardiovascular indications to be discussed with your cardiologist and/or anaesthetist) for 10 days before the intervention.
- Do not take anti-inflammatory drugs for 10 days before the intervention.
- Wash your hair with Septivon® antiseptic solution the day before the operation.
- 15-day medico-legal reflection period (which cannot be shortened) between the 1st consultation and the intervention.
Day of the intervention
- General anaesthetic or local anaesthetic with diazanalgesia.
- Carefully remove your make-up on the day of the intervention.
- Duration of the intervention: 2-4 hours on average.
After the intervention
- You can go home the day after the intervention, once the drains have been removed.
- You will have a sensation of tension behind the ears, relieved effectively by level 1 analgesics (Parcetamol®).
- You can shampoo your hair again from the day afterwards.
- Oedema for 1-2 weeks.
- The stitches are removed 7-15 days after the intervention.
- You can wear make-up again 1 week after the intervention.
- You can dye your hair again 1 month after the operation.
- Return to work: after 10-15 days, depending on your work environment.
- Definitive result obtained: after 3-6 months.
- Resume sport: after 3 months.
- Consultations after 3, 6 and 12 months for a clinical check-up and to take post-operative photographs.
